The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) created a powerful anti-Redskins commercial that ran during the NBA finals. I’ve written about it before but it deserves to be revisited due to its extended reach during the NBA Finals.

The video is intended to get people thinking, make them uncomfortable, and ramp up the conversation regarding whether or not “Redskins” is an appropriate nickname for the NFL’s Washington franchise. It’s working. People are talking about the commercial in office buildings and journalists are writing about it. Jeffrey Eisenbrand’s piece for Yahoo! Sports’ “ThePostGame” is an example that stands out.

Ultimately, the video does a good job sharing the perspective of Native Americans. And that’s the perspective that should have the most clout in this debate.

Visit changethemascot.org for more information about the video and campaign.
